GEROPHARM on business missions to Saudi Arabia
Roman Drai, Director of the GEROPHARM R&D Center, gave a speech at the “Pharmaceutical Industry: a Synergy for Healthcare” session as part of the Made in Russia and INNOPROM business missions to Saudi Arabia.
Roman spoke about the Russian and global expertise in the development and go-to-market strategies of insulin biosimilars.
He noted that biosimilars are widely used today in clinical practice and demonstrate the same efficiency and safety as the original medicinal products, but at lower costs.
In his opinion, biosimilars gained global trust and recognition mainly thanks to the strict regulation of this industry — with clear recommendations on how to develop and launch them into the market. Today EMA, as a key industry regulator, develops reference standards that are being adopted in many countries, including Russia. In addition, the official recommendations for the biosimilar development, which were introduced for the EAEU in 2016, have fully replaced Russian national regulations since 2021.
Roman emphasized that GEROPHARM, as an expert in the development of insulin biosimilars, complies with all applicable international requirements across all production stages, which makes it possible to export medicinal products abroad and transfer technologies at any level. In cooperation with Saudi Arabia, the company can help register medicinal products from own portfolio or even develop the new ones.
