Geropharm has signed with St. Petersburg city an agreement on setting up pharmaceutical production in the cluster

23 June 2010

On June 19, within the scope of XIV St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, an agreement was signed between St. Petersburg city and one of the leading Russian pharmaceutical companies Geropharm. This signing originated creation of the pharmaceutical cluster in the region. In her welcoming speech the governor of St. Petersburg Valentina Matvienko pointed out: "This is a momentous event for our city. We make first concrete steps to implement the federal program Pharma-2020 and the urban Conception of the pharmaceutical cluster creation. We are interested in creation of this cluster”.

As was said by the Governor at the signing ceremony, the projects associated with the pharmaceutical industry will prevail for the economy of St. Petersburg. The city will put a priority on the pharmaceutical cluster and will create privileged, convenient and comfortable conditions for companies’ activity. According to her, the City authorities will oversee such projects, in particular, assisting with documentation work.

Geropharm has become one of the first companies that have decided to set up a new production within the scope of the cluster being formed in the region. The company has actively and directly participated in designing of the Cluster Development Conception. Strategic goal of the company is to create a modern high-tech industrial complex in compliance with the GMP standards and to produce original Russian drugs as well as drugs-generics, which are of priority within import substitution; this goal coincides with the major current challenges in the industry.

"Our company will invest 1,3 billion rubles in the phase one construction in the area of 2.8 ha” - said the Director of OOO Geropharm Pyotr Rodionov. – “Total investment will reach 3 billion rubles for five years. The survey work has already been completed; the project will be forwarded for approval in the nearest future.

“Our project is one of the candidates for inclusion into the Register of promising projects in pharmaceutical and medical industries” - continued Pyotr Rodionov. – “In May this year, we filed the documents on the project to the Commission under the President of the Russian Federation for modernization and technological development of the Russian economy. And we expect to get a favorable decision in this matter too. "

The concept of a pharmaceutical cluster was adopted by the Government of St. Petersburg in April 2010. The basic condition for work of the pharmaceutical cluster in St. Petersburg, including foreign companies, will be to set up a complete cycle production - from research to final product.

The pharmaceutical cluster will be located in industrial zone Pushkinskaya. The total reserve area will amount to 14 ha. The city will conduct a comprehensive engineering preparation of a new industrial zone.

Valentina Matvienko emphasized the fact that the first companies – the participants of the new cluster – are Russian enterprises.
