At the end of April, Saint Petersburg hosted the second international
forum on pharmaceutics and biotechnology IPhEB 2012. The event was
supported by the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian
Federation, the Chamber of Commerce of the Russian Federation, the
Plenipotentiary Representative of President of the Russian Federation in
the Northwest Federal District, the administration of Saint Petersburg.
First time organized in 2011, the Forum had established itself as one
of the greatest events in the field of science and technology. High
technologies, development of innovative medicines now constitute a
perspective area of pharmaceuticals, which leads to high interest to the
event by both business and government.
Event was attended by over 1,000 participants, including
representatives of government authorities, major universities and
research centres of the country, industry experts, top management of
pharmaceutical companies from 15 countries worldwide.
Petr Rodionov, the Director of Geropharm was one of the attendants at
the plenary session National Priorities for Pharmaceutical Industry
Development. Plenary session was opened by Georgiy Poltavchenko, the
Governor of Saint Petersburg. In addition, the event was attended by
Sergei Tsyb, the Director at the Department of Chemical and Technology
Complex and Bioengineering Technologies of the Ministry of Industry and
Trade of the Russian Federation; Elena Telnova, the Deputy Head of the
Federal Service on Surveillance in Healthcare, Aleksandr Belyaev, the
Head of the Federal Antimonopoly Service in Saint Petersburg.
Straight-through theme of the meeting was summarising subtotals of
pharmaceutical cluster of Saint Petersburg under the federal target
program Development of the Pharmaceutical and Medical Industry of the
Russian Federation until 2020 and the further prospect. In this regard,
Petr Rodionov described the activities of Geropharm within a cluster,
focusing on the project of the company’s modern R&D centre already
implemented in a special economic zone Neudorf. Mr. Rodionov also spoke
about current status of plants construction, which is currently underway
in the Pushkinskaya industrial zone (Saint Petersburg) and the Moscow
During plenary session, the participants discussed main challenges
that manufacturers of pharmaceuticals face today. In particular, the
questions on the need to improve legislation in the sphere of state
order and introduction GMP standards into manufacturing practice in
Russia were touched on. As it was noted by the director of Geropharm,
the system of medicinal preparation registration needs further
development, since it will greatly facilitate products launch by the
manufacturers, and, therefore, will contribute to successful
implementation of tasks within the strategy Pharma-2020.
In parallel with the forum’s business program, the exhibition of the latest developments, products and services in medical, pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries was conducted. A separate exhibition was dedicated to the pharmaceutical cluster of Saint Petersburg, in which the exhibition stand of Geropharm was represented.
