Agreement Signed to Start a Direct Dialogue between Physicians and Patients

15 June 2022

On June 15, an agreement for cooperation between the Association of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers of the Eurasian Economic Union and the All-Russian Union of Patients Organisations was signed within SPIEF.

The Association of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers of the Eurasian Economic Union (which GEROPHARM is a member of) is engaged in comprehensive efforts towards enhancing a direct and meaningful dialogue between physicians’ and patients’ organisations. Last year, the Association members made a commitment to increase confidence in the quality of Russian medicines. For this purpose, a Declaration on the Policy for Medicinal Product Development, Production, Quality Control and Safety Monitoring was signed.

This year, the Association made another major step by having signed an agreement with the All-Russian Union of Patients Organisations. The document was signed by Aleksey Kedrin, Chairman of the Board of the Association of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers of the Eurasian Economic Union, and by Yuriy Zhulyov and Yan Vlasov, Co-Chairmen of the All-Russian Union of Patient Organisations.

The organisations undertake to encourage adoption of patient-centric approach at each stage of medicinal product life cycle, promotion of the principles of ethical interaction between domestic pharmaceutical manufacturers, healthcare professionals’ and patients’ organisations, as well as improvement of the system of supervision over medicinal products and medical devices existing in the Russian market.

“Being a Russian company we are sensible of our responsibility to Russian patients. That is why our efforts are not limited to medicinal product development and production. GEROPHARM is always open for dialogue. We encourage patients to join expert councils and give us feedback which is instrumental for finding solutions to their problems and needs. I am confident that the agreement we signed will help build trust between companies and patients, it will become a groundwork for the consolidation of the existing patient-centric projects and new activities of the Association members. This is why we are happy to join the initiative and start working together with our colleagues,” comments Pyotr Rodionov, General Director of GEROPHARM.

In the nearest future, the project roadmap will be developed. According to the signatories, the agreement will be instrumental for an inclusive dialogue and for building trust in the quality of Russian medicinal products in healthcare professionals’ and patients’ associations.

“Patient-centric approach is vital for the healthcare system development. We are happy that our dialogue with pharmaceutical manufacturers has been active for several years now as for us, for patients, for the entire community, it is important that each individual has access to novel yet affordable therapy,” Yuriy Zhulyov, Co-Chairman of the All-Russian Union of Patients Organisations said.

“Colleagues and we had extensive discussions and arrived at the conclusion that we have to focus on such areas as monitoring of medicinal products efficacy and safety, improvement of pharmacovigilance, early informing patients of promising developments, patients inclusion in expert activities. One of the priorities is still our joint efforts towards improvement of legislation concerning the pharma sector both in Russia and in the Eurasian Economic Union,” comments Aleksey Kedrin, Chairman of the Board, Association of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers of the Eurasian Economic Union.
